Ananto

SEAMLESSLY BLENDING A MULTI-GENRE SOUND

Anant Maitra, known artistically as "Ananto," is an RNB/HipHop singer, producer, and saxophonist from Austin, TX. His stage name, "Ananto," reflects his Indian heritage and culture, both of which heavily influence his music. Anant has been playing the alto saxophone since the age of 10 and has actively honed his craft for over 18 years. He began his musical journey in high school marching band and continued playing with local bands during his college years at The Ohio State University. It was during this time that he felt the need to write and record his own music, which led him to start producing, writing, and recording songs, often focusing on modern RNB/HipHop.

Anant formed a music group called 72 Spectrum, and since 2019, he has released music on streaming platforms such as Spotify and Apple Music. His debut EP, "Sovereign State," featured six tracks blending RNB, rap, and Indian melodic influences, amassing over 45,000 streams on Spotify alone. Following this, he released a number of singles and his first full-length album, "Clocked Out," which garnered over 100,000 streams on platforms like Spotify and YouTube. His latest LP, "NOT FOR COMMERCIAL USE," was released recently, followed by additional singles. In March 2024, his song "Left To Dry," from the "Clocked Out" album, won the award for Best Recorded, Mixed, and Mastered Song of 2023 by the Indian Recording Arts Academy (IRAA).

Currently, Anant is working on an unannounced project slated for release in early 2025. Aside from his solo work, he is the lead saxophonist and vocalist for two bands: "SolSpectrum," based in Columbus, OH, and "1-800-SUEDE" in Austin, TX. He played with SolSpectrum from 2019 to 2022, and they plan to release a studio live album by the end of this year. After relocating to Austin in February 2023, Anant formed "1-800-SUEDE," actively performing in venues across the city, including a recent appearance at the 2024 Pecan St. Festival. The band has played at popular venues such as Vulcan Gas Company, Radio Coffee and Beer, Sahara Lounge, and HighBall Bar. In this band, Anant handles vocals and saxophone, accompanied by a drummer, two lead guitarists, and a bassist. Many of the songs were written by him and adapted for live performances, merging live instrumentation with elements of electronic production from his original works.

In addition to his band performances, Anant also performs solo shows, accompanied by keyboardist Arshad Ahamed, a talented pianist from Columbus, OH, who adds a lush and ambient sound to their performances. Anant also plays saxophone for weddings in Austin with Bat City Beats, covering RNB, pop, and jazz hits. With exciting opportunities on the horizon for both his band projects and solo endeavors, Anant looks forward to expanding his musical reach and continuing to evolve his sound.
